Researchers at MCTP have discovered that the level of a product of metabolism, sarcosine, was highly elevated as prostate cancer progressed to metastatic disease, indicating that it may play a very important role in prostate cancer cell invasion and aggressiveness. For further details, scientists may follow the links to the journal Nature, as listed below. Patients may read our Sarcosine and Prostate Cancer page about this discovery. While there is no FDA approved, clinical test for sarcosine available to the public at this time, our hope is that this research, and research performed by other groups, will be developed in a timely fashion to benefit patient care as soon as possible. Please visit our Clinical Trials page to view what trials are currently available at the University of Michigan.
This work was undertaken through the joint efforts of the MCTP affiliated scientists and researchers. Scientists and the press may wish to learn more about our Proteomics and Metabolomics groups at MCTP. You may also visit our Latest From the Bench page that summarizes past major discoveries.
